Program Goals
The educational objectives of the Associate Science in Nursing
program (Licensed Vocational Nurse) are to prepare students for
a licensed vocational nurse career through highs standards in the
education process, a holistic approach to patient care, high moral
and ethical standards to dedicate Christian community.
Program Learning Objectives
At the end of the program, students will become vocational nurse in
providing patient care facility and hospital with the following
knowledge and skills:
- Demonstrate the roles and responsibilities of the vocational nurse
as a member of health care team and Practice vocational nursing
standards within the legal, ethical and regulatory framework
- Demonstrate general education knowledge in critical thinking and
problem solving
- Demonstrate nursing skills providing basic preventive, therapeutic,
and rehabilitative measures for patients
- Pass the National Council Licensure Examination for vocational
nurses (NCLEX-PN Examination) and obtain job placement in
hospitals or in health-care related facilities
- Demonstrate Christian commitment and spiritual integrity to serve
community and the church
Admission Requirements
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Have a High School Diploma or its
equivalent.
3. Prospective students must complete an
Admissions Application for Oikos University
and an Admissions Application for the School
of Vocational Nursing.
4. Complete a personal interview with the
Vocational Nursing Program Coordinator.
5. All students applying for entrance into Oikos University Vocational Nurse Program are required to take the Proctored Entrance Exam and pass with an overall score of 50% or greater.
6. Satisfactory physical examination: after conditional acceptance,
submit the results of a physical examination by a licensed
physician or certified nurse practitioner.
7. Hold a valid CPR certification to cover the length of the VN
program.
8. Complete a personal interview with the Director of
Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
The Admissions Committee chaired by the Director of the Vocational
Nursing Program will make the final Informal admissions decision
regarding candidate program entry.
Formal acceptance into the Nursing Program is contingent upon
the student submission of required screening and documentation.
Program Requirements
Program includes both general education courses as well as those
relating directly to Licensed Vocational Nursing. All courses are
designed to comply with HIPAA regulations, giving pertinent
instruction in compliance with these new protocols whenever
appropriate.
Graduation Requirements
The Associate of Science in Nursing (LVN) degree program
requires the completion of a minimum of 64 units of credit plus 28 GE Units.
For major requirement, LVN program students are required the
completion of nursing curriculum including theory and clinical courses.
The students must complete 605 hours of
nursing theory and 792 hours of nursing clinical
courses.
In order for the successful completion of the theory courses, the
cumulative GPA of each theory course should be at least 75% or higher.
Since all clinical nursing courses are pass or fail base evaluation, the
students must pass all clinical courses. |
